Restricted and prohibited listings on PupPair
Everything below is prohibited on the PupPair marketplace. Listings that break these rules are removed, and the seller's account is suspended or permanently banned. This policy applies to pets, services and goods, and it applies in addition to the law where you and the buyer are located — it never replaces it.
Every seller confirms they have read this policy before a listing can be published, and every listing carries a Report control that sends it straight to our moderation queue.
Protected and CITES-listed animals
Animals listed in CITES Appendix I, II or III, or protected under national law — including all primates, big cats, bears, wolves and wolf-hybrids, birds of prey, crocodilians, venomous snakes, and the tortoise and parrot species commonly listed by CITES. This applies whether the animal is wild-caught or captive-bred, and whether or not you hold a permit: PupPair does not carry these listings at all.
Wild-caught animals
Any animal taken from the wild, including reptiles, amphibians, fish and birds described as 'wild caught', 'WC', 'field collected' or 'imported from the wild'. Only captive-bred animals from a traceable line may be listed.
Animals under the legal minimum age
Puppies and kittens under 8 weeks old, or under the minimum age set by the law where the animal is located, may not be sold or advertised — including 'reserve now, collect later' listings that would complete the sale before that age. The mother must be present and visible at viewing for dogs and cats sold in the UK and EU (Lucy's Law).
Sales requiring a licence you have not declared
Commercial breeding, pet vending, rehoming as a business, and animal boarding require a licence in most jurisdictions (in the UK, under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) Regulations 2018). If your activity needs one, the licence number and issuing authority must be entered on the listing. Listings that need a licence and do not declare one are removed.
Prescription and controlled veterinary medicines
Prescription-only veterinary medicines (POM-V / POM-VPS and their equivalents), antibiotics, sedatives, opioid painkillers, anaesthetics, controlled substances, vaccines, and unlicensed or expired medicines. Over-the-counter supplements and flea or worming treatments sold at retail are allowed if they are sealed, in date, and legal to resell where you are.
Weapons, traps and devices that cause harm
Snares, leg-hold and gin traps, glue traps, electric shock collars, prong and pinch collars, anti-bark shock devices, poisons, and any weapon. Animal-fighting equipment, including breeding stands, treadmills sold for conditioning fighting dogs, and break sticks, is prohibited outright.
Shipping live animals across a border without permits
Live animals may not be advertised for shipping or courier across an international border unless the listing states the export/import permits, the animal health certificate and the CITES documentation that the movement requires. 'Worldwide delivery' on a live animal listing is not permitted.
Animals you cannot prove are yours to sell
Animals without verifiable ownership, animals with an altered, missing or unregistered microchip, animals subject to a dispute or a court order, and animals rehomed from a rescue under a contract that forbids resale.
Hybrids and species banned as pets
First- and second-generation wild hybrids (wolfdog, Savannah F1–F2, Bengal F1–F2 and equivalents), species banned as pets where the buyer or seller is located, and any animal requiring a Dangerous Wild Animals licence.
Reporting a listing
Open the listing and use Report. Reports are triaged within our published service levels: within 1 hour for anything involving immediate danger to an animal or a person, and within 48 hours for everything else. You can also email support@puppair.app.
Appeals
If your listing was removed and you believe that was wrong, email support@puppair.app with the listing link. Appeals are reviewed by someone other than the moderator who made the original decision.
